Continue ReadingPronounced teh-rhey-RAY, terere (technically tereré with a sharp accent on the e) is the traditional cold yerba mate from Paraguay, where over 90% of the population drinking this form of cold yerba mate daily. Strong, smoky yerba mate is added to a hollowed cow’s horn (known as a guampa) or cylindrical metal gourd, then cold water, ice, and zesty herbs are added to a large thermos; water is repeatedly poured into the gourd and the mate is enjoyed throughout the intensely humid and muggy paraguayan heat.
