Notes on Alpaca Steel
Katana is made with a soft metal alloy commonly called alpaca, alpaka, or German steel, depending on region. This metal is quite pliable and soft, so take care not to bend your bombilla or use the spoon filter to scrape spent yerba from your gourd.
Over time, it’s natural for the filter to wear down. Alpaca traditionally ages with natural exposure to the air and the heat of your infusions, causing a subtle pink or yellow patina — this is normal.
Usage and Pairing Notes
Best suited for coarse-cut and blended yerba mates; not ideal for very fine-cut yerbas. Pairs well with gourds up to 4.5in (11.5 cm), such as Acero Cup and Energy Cups.
