Description

Paraguayan’s Treasured Organic Yerba Mate

Harvested during the waning moon cycle for optimal nutrition, flavor and regeneration of the plant, then aged for over 2 years in wooden caskets—unheard of in the modern commercialized world of mate —Onoiru’s certified organic yerba certainly isn’t produced in fast-fashion speed. Quite the opposite. With over 135 families contributing land and resources to the Collective, Onoiru’s yerba is quite literally infused with the hands of love, care and understanding for both the ancient yerba mate plant and the soil in which it grows.

Ecological sustainability is the heart of Onoiru’s mission. Relying on hand-power over machines and chemicals, everything from the soil to the biodegradable packaging is considered in light of sustaining the land and the people that oversee it. The Association of Agro Ecological Farmers of Paraguay believe in growing yerba in the native forests over mono-crops growing in direct sunlight as is common in Argentina. The difference is immediately tasted upon first sip.

Onoiru Organic Paraguayan Yerba Mate Tasting Notes

Those that appreciate the wild wild west of explosive, rebellious flavor profiles so eponymously associated with Paraguayan yerba won’t be disappointed. Bursts of cedar-rich tobacco, dark cacao, espresso, and crisp green malt converge to a prismatic array of supreme robustness that hits the palate hard and heavy before sweet hay and underspoken florals offer much-appreciated levity and buoyancy for a beautiful, yet chaotic, symphony eclectic notes.

But perhaps the most recognized and significant flavor profile is that of the hands that cared for and harvested this most special yerba. Those intangible elements shine through with a force and energy that’s ineffable yet present and lasting. Appreciation, respect and harmony never tasted so good.

Paraguay, being the original home of yerba mate, has a most unique relationship with the plant. No yerba on Earth tastes quite like the signature smoky-sweet, long lasting, flavors of Paraguayan yerba. Being naturally rich, it’s perfectly suited for both hot and cold (tereré) yerba.

Made cold, the muscular flavors will lighten and the addition of citrus fruit and mint will offer a refreshing balance of hard and softness. Consumed hot, preferably not exceeding 160ºF/71ºC, you’ll feel the charge of rich earth, mature tobacco leaves and sharp cherry elements.

Onoiru yerba tells a beautiful story of Paraguay and the souls that inhabit the land: strong, resilient and enduring beyond all odds.

Salud!
